Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru [Anime Review] Run with the Wind

Run with the Wind Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru novel by Shion Miura

Very good to everyone! Today I bring you a new review of an anime that began in the fall season and has ended this week. I loved writing this review so I hope you can enjoy reading it. We start!

Title: Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru
Genre: Comedy, Spokon, Drama
Chapters: 23
Studio: Production I.G
Issue year: 2018 – 2019
Kakeru, a former elite runner of the institute, is persecuted for stealing food and is saved by a boy named Haiji, who is also a runner. Haiji convinces Kakeru to live in the old “Chikuseisou” apartment where he plans to team up with other teammates to enter the Hakone Ekiden marathon, one of the most important university races in Japan. Soon, Kakeru realizes that everyone, except himself and Haiji, are beginners.

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru is about a group of boys who join their university’s athletic team practically “forced” and whose goal is to compete in the Hakone Ekiden marathon.

That said, it does not seem to attract much attention since they present it to us as a simple sports anime where in addition not all characters have the same passion and desire to enter the world of athletics, training and competitions. To be honest, there were a few chapters in which the anime did not convince me so much … it was fine, but I did not end up falling in love. In my opinion the group formed by the protagonists was a bit forced but in the end that is precisely the charm of this story. It is not simply a story of athletics where everyone loves sport in the same way as they have accustomed us in other sports anime.

In the case of Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru, the really important thing is how the importance of teamwork is transmitted, finding a group of friends with whom to share your time doing something in common and even how they spread the motivation to each other and They learn things from others. I think this anime is rather a story of self-improvement for the characters, of finding themselves and also finding a motivation to move forward with their lives and do something that fills them.

I think that this anime somehow intends to teach us that although we feel lost, we do not know what to do with our life or we have lost our motivation, at any moment a person can appear who brings something new to our life and makes it change for the better.

For me in the sports anime, one of the key points is his characters and I must say that Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru has not disappointed me at all. While it is true that I began to see him with the idea that I would probably like it, I did not think that the protagonists would take so much love, so … somehow, it ended up surprising me more than I expected.

As athletes, not all the protagonists of this anime are geniuses nor do they seem to have the intention of becoming one but they are all completely different, they have their own character problems, different goals in life … I think, if there is something that Unite is that everyone wants to show that they can also do great things that make them feel better about themselves and other people. In addition, it is beautiful to see how they all forge a very strong bond and create a beautiful friendship.

From the beginning they make us quite clear that the main protagonists are Haiji and Kakeru, in fact they are characters that I loved … especially the first. However, others have surprised me at some point in history, especially in the end part. I must say that from the beginning I liked Ouji and it was possible to see the progress that this character was going to have, which I thought was great. Peeero … my biggest surprise was King in the last chapters since he had always been the character that least caught my attention and just at the end I felt very identified with him.

Design and Animation
Visually I think Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru is a great anime. I have especially loved the designs of the characters, they are beautiful, their expressions have transmitted me a lot and, I do not know … In general they were all very different from each other, each design fit very well with the personality of each one and the To see them you could know a little what kind of characters they would be and it is always great to see such beautiful characters. Surely more than one will have also realized that he has been encouraged by Production I.G because his characters have an aesthetic quite similar to those of Haikyuu! or Ballroom and Youkoso.

I would like to give my opinion on the CGI used in some of the scenes during athletics. I don’t know if it will be because I got used to the passing of the chapters or what but I got the impression that those scenes were improving and, although they continued using the same technique, it seemed to me that I was like a little more “integrated” with the rest of the image, so to speak.

As for the soundtrack of this anime, the truth is that it has left its mark on my little heart. To be honest, during the chapters for me I went quite unnoticed except in certain key moments full of emotion but still in those moments the music made everything even more beautiful and I loved it. On the other hand the opening and ending seemed wonderful to me.

In particular, I must say that the last ending, titled Michi and played by Taichi Mukai, has completely won me over. For me it is pure perfection and they use it in one of the most emotional scenes of the whole series so I could not have fallen in love anymore.

Anyway, I think in general this series has a very beautiful soundtrack, appropriate in the moments that matter most and with great opening. Then I leave a link where you can listen to the soundtrack of the series.

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru is an anime about athletics with comedy and drama where the most important are the feelings of the characters, the bonds and ties that form between them, the individual situation of each of them and what friendship and Share something with important people. In fact, I would say that athletics is the “excuse” to develop the personality of the main characters and tell us a story of friendship and improvement. Everything is represented with a beautiful, pleasant visual design and a beautiful soundtrack full of emotion when necessary.

Well, well … here comes the review. I loved to enjoy these months of this fantastic anime that I didn’t even expect so much besides that it entertained me.
